A Bookshop in the Middle of Nowhere!

It's always busy!

I like to visit bookshops. I like to be around books, something not possible with digital downloads, although they may have a place in modern society. A book is tangible, each with its own feel and smell. It’s nice to see one bookshop that is doing well, and yet, geographically, it is out of the way, high in the hills in the Derbyshire Peak District.

The High Peak Book Store is around 4 miles from England’s highest market town, Buxton and lies on the A515. I have driven past it several times in past years and this year I finally got to go inside.

The books are sold at a discount and there is a good selection for all to enjoy. In addition, there is a range of gifts, jigsaws, and children’s books and a selection of toys.

The cafe is well-supported and there is often a wait for a table, especially as the weather gets cold and fewer want to sit outside. There is a tasty menu and there is a good range of unusual tea and coffee. The food is wonderful and reasonably priced. I have tested it!

This year, I have managed three visits so far, the penultimate one entailed travelling in fairly poor visibility due to the low cloud over those high hills. I am sure during wintertime the High Peak Bookstore will be affected by bad weather, but for now, even late in October, it is very busy. It’s good to see people still wanting to buy books.
