Great tips Roland and agree with all of them :) It's also good to have an understanding of the autonomic nervous system and what's happening - this knowledge takes away some of the fear - and a simple yet effective technique for triggering the relaxation response... you'll hear about all this in my 4Sight presentation at 4Networking! :)

Remember Fear is an emotion very difficult to read, it is so near to pleasure. When you give a speach the audience will see the pleasure your body is presenting, not the fear that you are feeling. As soon as you start speaking you will feel more confident to continue and the feeling of fear will turn to pleasure for you as well. I was taught this in Neuro Linguistic Programming it, but did not believe it until I used it myself. It works!

Hi Tim. Thanks for commenting. There are many things that we can do before speaking and controlling our breathing is certainly one of them. There are also some voice exercises that can help relax us too and on another occasion I will write a post about them. Best wishes, Roland

Great tips!

Deep breathing can really be a great exercise before going to the stage. As oxygen helps body to feel more relax.

And don't forget to feel confident. Even if you aren't, act as if you are!
